CBS 58 Hometowns: Black History Month

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee is a city that, like many in America, has a history that is intimately tied to Black history. In fact, it can be simply stated that there is little separation of "Black history" and "Milwaukee history," but there are some organizations that specialize in the preservation of Wisconsin's rich African American heritage, as well as the continued progress of the Black community in the area.

This week's special edition of CBS 58 Hometowns aims to shine a light on some of these groups and places, as Frankie Jupiter speaks to the Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum, pays a visit to the Shermon Phoenix and speaks with the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce.

From community programs that educate children and adults of all ages about Black history in Wisconsin, to the enrichment and support of Black-owned businesses, Frankie has some special sights and sounds lined up for Tuesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 22 on the CBS 58 News.

The Hometowns week was kicked off by Zashary Torres, fund manager with the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce, who joined us live on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Meanwhile, our CBS 58's Michael Schlesinger spent Tuesday putting a spotlight on soul food. Michael stopped by Daddy's Soul Food and Ruby J's in Milwaukee to show us what's on the menu. Watch the video below for more.
