WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) — It may have looked a little like graduation day at Carroll University on Friday, but the robes and procession were all part of a move-in tradition for the school's newest students.

Incoming students put on academic robes and walk the same route they are expected to take when they graduate four years later. The procession is followed by a convocation ceremony welcoming students to campus.

Among the students moving in Friday was Natalie Popp, who served as Miss Wisconsin's Teen last year.

Popp said she first learned about Carroll after being invited to ride in the university's homecoming parade.

"At that point, I had no idea where I wanted to go to school or what I wanted to do, so when we came to campus, we toured it, and I just absolutely fell in love with the environment," Popp said. "The people — everyone was so kind and generous and thoughtful, and I knew right away that this was the spot for me."

Popp's decision to attend Carroll came despite receiving full-tuition scholarship offers from Alabama and Mississippi State.

Classes at Carroll University begin Wednesday.
