Carjackings in Wauwatosa
Wauwatosa police are investigating a carjacking near Leff's Lucky Town in Wauwatosa.
Police say there is a slight uptick in carjackings. They tell CBS 58 they can't pinpoint an exact reason for the spike, but said often times those responsible are bragging about being criminals.
\"They're taking them and joy riding throughout different neighborhoods and posting videos, posting pictures on their own personal facebook or online accounts; basically boasting and bragging about the vehicles they've stolen,\" said Lt. Brian Zalewski.
They're breaking the law and bragging about it all in hopes of becoming a little more popular.
\"It appears that its a status symbol to a lot of these individuals. We are seeing evidence of that through our investigation of the things posted online by the individuals who are committing these crimes,\" said Zalewski.
From July 15th to July 23rd, there's been three carjackings and one attempted carjacking in Tosa.
In the 9 months before that, there had only been one carjacking and two attempted carjackings.
Police do want to warn the public. They said to always be aware of your surroundings and walk in groups.
Police said they do have a suspect in one of the carjackings and the suspect may be connected to another carjacking case.
