NOW: Car parts left at hit-and-run accident help Racine County deputies track down suspect

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Union Grove man is accused of hitting a jogger and fleeing the scene. The man's arrest was caught on body camera video.

Car parts left at the scene helped Racine deputies track down the suspect. Deputies identify him as 34-year-old Joshua Hanson.

"It was raining so hard that I don't know what the hell," Hanson said while talking to deputies.

Body camera shows Hanson panicking Friday night. He is accused of hitting a 36-year-old Kenosha County woman who was out jogging.

"I freaked the f*** out, I came home, I was so f****** scared. I've been paranoid ever since it happened."

Deputies responded to a hit-and-run call just before 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.

The crash happened near County Highway KR and Highway 45 in the Village of Yorkville. They found the woman in a ditch with serious injuries. A good Samaritan was by her side.

"This person is Flight for Life to Froedtert now...I told you to go back," deputies said.

There were car parts left at the scene. Deputies matched those parts to a silver Ford Escape SUV. They searched the area and found a vehicle with passenger side damage. The Ford Escape was sitting outside a home in the Town of Dover. Deputies learned it belonged to Hanson.

"Yeah, it took the mirror off, I know that," Hanson said.

Hanson admitted to the crash. He thought he hit someone's arm.

"You hit someone and then you fled the scene," deputies said. "Go ahead and put your hands behind your back for me."

Officials tell CBS 58 the victim is still in the hospital.

Hanson is facing three charges.

He's out on a $10,000 signature bond. Hanson's preliminary hearing is Oct. 20.
