SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says around 4:50 a.m. a woman lost control of her car near S. Chicago and Hawthorne Streets. The car then slid into Mill Pond in South Milwaukee.

The woman climbed onto the roof of her car until she was able to be rescued. The car was not submerged, but was in the water up to the wheel wells.

The woman was cited for failure to control vehicle and driving too fast for conditions.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The South Milwaukee Fire Department says emergency crews were called to the scene around 5 a.m. 

Rescuers found the female driver on the roof of the car that was partially submerged in the lagoon near Oak Creek Parkway and Mill Road. A ladder was used to get her to safety.

Officials say roads are icy in the area but they do not know if that was a factor in the incident. They warn drivers to use caution when out on the roads.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The South Milwaukee Fire Department says there was one person in the car at the time it went into the lagoon.

The driver was not hurt and rescued from the car by the fire department. Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area near Oak Creek Parkway, Mill Road and Highway 32.

There is no word on the cause of the incident.
