Teens hurt in car fire in Burlington

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a vehicle fire late Friday night on January 21.

Around 11:53 p.m., deputies were called to Clarence Street and Fish Hatchery Road. They found a vehicle had swerved off the road, struck two trees and was fully engulfed in flames.

The sheriff's office says both occupants were removed from the vehicle, one a 16-year-old male and the other a 15-year-old male. Deputies say the teenagers were conscious but did sustain life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the driver was taken by Flight for Life to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, while the passenger was taken by rescue squad to Aurora Medical Center in Burlington. Later, he was also transported via Flight For Life to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.

The sheriff's office says the accident remains under investigation, but speed is believed to be the contributing factor for the crash.
