Caledonia crash leaves 44-year-old motorcyclist dead, driver arrested

CALEDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Caledonia Police Department responded to a fatal accident on Saturday, May 18. 

It happened around 10:00 a.m. near 4 Mile and Short. 

Upon arrival, crews found the operator of the motorcycle, who was ejected from it. The motorcyclist succumbed to serious injuries and was pronounced deceased upon arrival. 

A vehicle was located on its side with an operator inside. Rescue crews extracted the operator. The operator had minor injuries. 

Police say preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was conducting a passing maneuver westbound. At the same time, the motorcycle was traveling eastbound. When the vehicle conducted the passing maneuver, the vehicle entered the lane occupied by the motorcycle, striking it. 

Police say speed and alcohol appear to be a factor as it relates to the vehicle operator. The operator of the vehicle was arrested homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and various other charges.

The operator of the vehicle is a 32-year-old man from Caledonia. 

The operator of the motorcycle was a 44-year-old man from Caledonia. 

Police say they charges will be presented to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
