Bus Driver Assaulted at Break Stop
The bus union reported a driver was assaulted late in November on their regular break spot at 16th and Mitchell.
The Amalgated Transit Union asked to change that location and MCTS agreed.
Drivers on route number 14 will now get their break downtown at Water and Wisconsin.
An MCTS spokesman sent us this statement:
“This random crime incident, which happened on a Sunday afternoon, is unfortunate and not something that has happened before in the decades the relief point has been at that location. There is nothing more important than the security of our passengers and employees. Transit security has been made aware of the incident and is patrolling the area more frequently.
As the memo points out, our Scheduling Department is in the process of changing the relief point. A recent audit showed there is a 99.76% chance of taking a trip on MCTS without incident. Much like police can't stop all random crimes, MCTS works hard every day to make sure the buses remain safe. This rhetoric and scare tactics from James Macon is dishonest and a disservice to the community and his members who deserve honesty and integrity.”
