Burn survivors attend camp in East Troy, celebrated by local fire departments, emergency responders

EAST TROY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- More than 50 kids from across Wisconsin are in East Troy this week to attend a burn survivors camp.

The week-long event is held at Camp Timber-lee and put on by the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation. It is the 25th year of the annual event.

Campers enjoy zip-lining, horseback riding and archery.

On Thursday, dozens of fire trucks from around the state participated in a parade at Camp Timber-lee. It was also visitor's day where campers families can join in on the fun.

This year marks 15-year-old Emma Kroll's 9th time at the camp.

"There's not everyone that goes through this, and a lot of people have come up to me and looked at me funny and here, you don't get that," she said. 

Kroll's family says it has shaped her into the person she is today.

"She's a lot more outgoing, she talks to everybody now and likes to be active in different sectors of the burn community," Kroll's dad Todd said. 

The six-day overnight camp is free. It is open to 7-17-year-olds.
