RICHFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Mark and Leah Minkin, co-founders of the National Ataxia Bowl for a Cure, joined us Tuesday, Sept. 15 to talk about two upcoming fundraisers supporting ataxia research and education.
Leah was diagnosed with ataxia six years ago. The rare neurological disease affects the cerebellum and can impact speech, fine motor skills, balance, swallowing and cognition.
The fifth annual Bowl for a Cure takes place Sunday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pioneer Bowl in Richfield. The event includes bowling, raffles and a live auction, with Pioneer Bowl donating 10% of food sales to the National Ataxia Foundation. Admission is $25 per person, which includes shoes and three games of bowling.
People who don't want to bowl can still attend for the raffles and food.
Mark Minkin will also take part in an Xtreme Hike in October, hiking from the North Rim to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to raise funds for the foundation.
