MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This morning, August 2, the HarRUNbee 5K run or walk kicked off Bronzeville Week. Celebrating Milwaukee's deep African American culture and history.
In its tenth year, dozens of participants ran down Martin Luther King Drive to raise awareness and prevent unhealthy birth outcomes across our city.
The founder of the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families Tonda Thompson says African American babies are three times more likely to die before white babies.
Their goal is to encourage families to stay fit, both mentally and physically.
"We want to make sure our communities are healthy," said Thompson. "We want to get women to do preventable methods versus waiting around for someone to do it."
This year Bronzeville Week celebrates 15 years!
You'll be able to find block parties and arts festivals. As well as speaking events honoring Milwaukee's African American culture, history and entertainment.
