WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) --The 11-year-old boy charged with killing his own mother in Milwaukee appeared in a Wauwatosa juvenile court on Friday, Oct. 6 for a scheduling hearing, where there are continuing questions about whether he will be tried as a minor or as an adult.

The boy, now 11 years old, was automatically charged as an adult for allegedly shooting and killing his own mother last November.

The controversial case has caused an uproar in some Wisconsin communities and even made national headlines.

He faces a felony count of first-degree intentional homicide, which could mean life in prison for the minor.

In July, the judge deemed him competent to stand trial as an adult, but his attorneys are still doing everything they can to make sure his trial stays in juvenile court.

The minor has been in custody now for almost a year. On Friday, the court finalized a date for a reverse waiver hearing, in mid-March.

Typically, a reverse waiver hearing means a juvenile prosecuted as an adult in criminal court may petition to have their case "waived back" to the juvenile court system--but in this case, it's different. The boy was initially charged as an adult, but his case has never been in adult court. The next hearing will determine whether the case stays in juvenile court or moves to adult court moving forward for when the trial takes place.

The attorneys told the judge they anticipate the upcoming hearing to last two or three days with about three or more witnesses taking the stand.

They also requested the judge sign an order for the boy to undergo a medical, psychiatric evaluation.

His cash bail remains at $50,000 with conditions of bail.
