Book About Poverty in Milwaukee Earns Author a Pulitzer Prize

A book about poverty in Milwaukee has earned its author a Pulitzer Prize. Harvard sociologist Matthew Desmond won the prize for general non-fiction for a book called \"Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City.\"

His book features 8 families living in low-income Milwaukee neighborhoods and their relationship with two landlords in the aftermath of the 2008 economic crash.

Today, the Milwaukee organization \"Community Advocates\" congratulated Desmond on his award saying \"We thank Matthew Desmond for making access to safe, affordable housing part of the national conversation.\"

The group calls the book a catalyst for the new eviction defense project in the Milwaukee county court system.
