Blizzard Warning keeps plows working overnight across Milwaukee, no garbage collection Monday

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Department of Public Works crews worked through the night clearing snow as a blizzard continues to impact the city Monday, March 16.

Officials say crews will continue snow removal operations throughout the day as conditions remain hazardous.

They also say that garbage and recycling collection is suspended Monday, as those crews will be reassigned to help with the snow removal and plowing.

A Blizzard Warning is scheduled to be in effect until 4 p.m., and residents are being urged to limit travel if possible. Those who do hit the road are asked to take some extra time and give snowplows plenty of space to work.

The National Weather Service says snow continued to fill in across the area late Sunday, with snowfall rates around a quarter inch per hour and heavier bursts possible overnight. Forecasters warn deteriorating conditions and snow-covered roads could make travel dangerous.
