BBB warning givers to beware of seasonal scams

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- If you're feeling generous during the holidays, the BBB is warning to make sure you do your homework.

"One red flag is high-pressure sales. If you get a phone call, email, text, anything demanding payment, saying you need it today, that very well could be a scam," says Jim Temmer, President/CEO of the BBB serving Wisconsin.

The BBB says a legitimate charity will want your donation anytime, not just right now.

Other tips are to use a credit card because if your information is stolen,  you aren't liable for any charges. Also, pay attention to the name of the charity. Scams may switch around words in a legitimate charity to try and fool you.
