Balloon Causes Power Outage in West Milwaukee

WEST MILWAUKEE / WEST ALLIS - A power outage that happened around 8 p.m. this evening was caused by a mylar balloon. Homes and businesses including Walgreens and Taco Bell in West Allis were without power. The balloon got caught in a power line and even caused one of the wires to fall. This is because those types of balloons contain metal.

At the peak of the power outage, 1,500 customers were without power. As of 9:45 p.m., there are still roughly 750 people without power. This is because WE Energies discovered that the balloon caused even further problems down the power line and other equipment was damaged. They are working hard to restore everyone's power but do not have an estimated time yet.
