MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For the first time ever, college basketball was played on the Brewers' baseball field as American Family Field hosted a Badgers doubleheader.

There were lots of awestruck stares when thousands of fans first caught sight of the court on the field.

Regardless of the outcome, fans loved what they saw: big-time basketball in the middle of the diamond.

UW student Katie Chesebro said, "It's so fun!"

Trista Holzmann of Elkhart Lake said, "The atmosphere is actually amazing."

It was a doubleheader at the ballpark but with a twist.

Matthew Harris of Waukesha said, "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Thousands of Badgers basketball fans got a new look at an old favorite.

Chesebro said, "I have been coming to Miller Park ever since I was young, so combining those two atmospheres together is just electric. It's so fun."

Badgers fan Todd Feiter said, "We're big Brewer fans and big Badgers fans. And so here we are. You combine the two, it's wonderful."

Bucky was there, the band was there, the sausages were there, and Brewer was there.

Not Bernie Brewer, but Brewer Feiter. That's his given name.

He's a superfan who dresses the part.

Brewer said of his Badgers clothes, "Acquired it over the years. Got the hat from my grandma. Worn it for about two years now to all the Badger games."

Temporary bleachers were brought in and dropped right on the infield dirt. Those seats were right on top of the action. Other seats were a little further away, but no matter where fans sat, the atmosphere was electric.

And if the goal is to get new visitors to Milwaukee who want to spend some money, it's working.

UW student Easton Bertoni said, "It's actually my first time. This is the closest I've ever been to Milwaukee; I've never been to the stadium."

Chesebro said she was staying for both games. "Oh yeah, of course. Then we're going downtown to Milwaukee tonight to check out the rest of the city."

No matter the outcome, the Brew City Battle was a huge success with fans who want to see more games like this.
