The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that happened near 5th and North this afternoon.
According to police, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were conducting a traffic stop at that location and a confrontation occurred during which shots were fired by an ATF agent. It's unclear why federal agents initiated that traffic stop.
Nobody was injured in the shooting.
An adult male and an adult female are currently in custody.
Neighbors say they were surprised to see all of the activity in a normally quiet neighborhood.
“I’m just devastated by it," said one neighbor. "I had to ask and see if the guy was alright, cause we’ve got a very caring neighborhood and you hate to hear about something like that happening in Milwaukee and it’s a shame.”
There is no further information being released at this time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
