Ascension Wisconsin celebrates 100,000th person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- Ascension Wisconsin is celebrating a big milestone!

On Monday, March 15, 71-year-old Mary Walker became the 100,000th person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at Ascension St. Joseph in Milwaukee.

On Dec. 16, exactly three months ago, Ascension Wisconsin launched its first vaccine clinic.

The health system has since administered 100,000 first and second doses to phase 1a and Phase 1b eligible individuals.

Officials say Walker was thrilled to receive her second dose on Monday.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more people I love and getting back to a more normal life. I’ve been so careful, for so long and it’s such a relief to know I’m now protected,” she said.

Vice President of Government and Community Services and Chief Advocacy Officer of Ascension Wisconsin, Reggie Newson, said the health system is grateful for its associates and vaccinators.

“We’re also grateful to our patients and community members who trusted us with their care as we work together to build community immunity," Newson said.
