WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 216 cases of cyclosporiasis in the state as of Aug. 5, including five hospitalizations.

The increase comes amid a multistate Cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce that was distributed to food-service customers in Wisconsin.

Lynn Centgraf of Centgraf Farms in Mayville said the farm has seen increased demand for lettuce and more business.

"We picked probably double what we used to pick so I have enough, and I don't sell out too quickly," Centgraf said.

The farm was set up at the West Allis Farmers Market on Thursday, where the demand continued.

"They always comment that they don't want to go to the grocery store and buy their lettuce anymore," Centgraf said. "They're afraid, and they're just not confident it's going to be safe. On our farm, we know where it's been."

As the number of cyclosporiasis cases rises, Centgraf said buying locally gives customers an opportunity to learn more about where their produce comes from.

"You know the farmer you get it from, so you can talk to them and ask them questions about it," Centgraf said. "Fresh is always good."
