Arrest warrant issued for former MCTS bus driver charged with homicide after crash kills Wauwatosa man

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Milwaukee County Transit Services (MCTS) bus driver who authorities said hit and killed 61-year-old George Kayser of Wauwatosa last November.

Court documents reveal Dameon Peters, 55, told investigators he attempted to steer the bus to avoid a person in the intersection "when he heard a thud" and stopped the bus to call MCTS for help.

A blood test revealed Peters' blood alcohol level at the time was 0.236 and internal bus video reportedly showed him squinting and blinking with his eyes "barely open" while behind the wheel.

MCTS confirmed he was fired two days after the incident and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office has since charged him with one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration.

Now nearly two months later, flowers and messages from loved ones are still posted where Kayser was struck.

MCTS sent CBS 58 this statement which reads in full:

MCTS is committed to the safety and well-being of our employees, riders, and the communities we serve. Safety is a core principle that guides our decisions at every level of the organization.

Following an internal investigation into an incident on November 22, 2025, that resulted in the death of an individual, MCTS immediately terminated the bus operator involved. The former employee has since been charged by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

MCTS recognizes the gravity of this incident and extends its deepest sympathies to the family and all those affected.
