MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was music, food and lots of history in Milwaukee's City Hall rotunda Tuesday morning, for the city's annual Black History Month program.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson spoke at the celebration, along with other community leaders.
One speaker was Alderwoman Milele Coggs, who's worked for years on improving and promoting Milwaukee's historic Bronzeville neighborhood. She sounded a call for generations to work together to rise above challenges.
"Because it is the guidance and wisdom of our elders, combined with the fearlessness and innovation of our youth, that has ever helped us to see through the many challenges throughout our history," Ald. Coggs said.
Tuesday's program included recognition of leaders who have made significant contributions to the community.
