GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Friends and family of two women killed in a July hit-and-run came together Saturday, Aug. 15 for a fundraiser benefiting their families.

Amy Austin, 49, and May Daiber, 48, were killed near 20th Street and Teutonia Avenue while they were on their way to Shenanigans for karaoke night.

The two had been best friends for more than 20 years. Police say a driver in a speeding black SUV struck both women and then fled the scene.

“It’s just really sad and I never thought it would happen to our family,” Debora Austin, Amy’s sister, said.

Austin said her sister and Daiber were taken from their loved ones senselessly.

“It’s really difficult. I wanted her to live her life, and she deserved that, and May as well, and someone just carelessly and senselessly took that,” Austin said.

The women also shared a love of pool and played in the same league.

Saturday, Romine’s High Pockets hosted a pool tournament and raffle, with proceeds going to the women’s families.

“The pool community has really showed up, and it just reaffirms what we already knew about May and Amy that they were really special in the pool community and that everybody really loved them,” Austin said.

David Dahle, owner of Romine’s High Pockets, said the pool community has rallied around the families.

“Amy’s a cancer survivor and so am I. Going through the cancer treatment, beating cancer and then getting hit by a car is like a bad movie so the pool community has really come together,” Dahle said.

Austin said Amy had beaten ovarian cancer and was preparing to move out of Milwaukee before she was killed.

No one has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run.

Amy’s family is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the suspect.

“Find the guys that hit those gals,” Dahle said.
