Badger All-Big Ten first-team honoree Nick Herbig headed to the NFL
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Badger linebacker Nick Herbig has announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft.
In a social media statement released on Saturday, Dec. 10, Herbig said that after conferring with his family and coaches, he made the decision.
"It has been a childhood dream of mine to play football at the highest level," he said before officially saying that he's headed to the NFL. Herbig also thanked the Wisconsin coaching staff for the opportunity to "... be a Badger and represent the red and white."
Herbig's older brother Nate is already in the NFL, as an offensive guard for the New York Jets.
The Badgers 2022 season was highlighted by Herbig, who earned the Jimmy Demetral Team MVP award on Friday, Dec. 9, and also earned All-Big Ten first-team honors as the Big Ten's sack leader, totaling 11 sacks on the year.
The news about Hertbig's departure comes only a day after Badger defensive tackle Keeanu Benton also announced his plans to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
