Abandoned pets on the rise
MILWAUKEE - Abandoned pets in the city are apparently on the rise. Officials at the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission say they sometimes get up to 5 abandoned animals a week. When they're discovered, the pets are brought to MADACC and hopefully nursed back to health. Unfortunately sometimes the animals are in such bad shape they're forced to be euthanized. Pets are abandoned for a number of reasons. One is financial. Another, some people are simply heartless. Animals left for a week or so without water usually don't make it. People who are considering abandoning their pets should first contact local animal shelters like the Wisconsin Humane Society or HAWS in Waukesha. In an emergency MADACC will take your pet and even waive the drop off fee.
