AARP Wisconsin kicking off statewide tour in Milwaukee to talk Social Security

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- AARP Wisconsin is set to begin a statewide tour to discuss Social Security, its importance and future, according to an AARP press release.

The first session of the tour takes place in Milwaukee on Monday, July 18 at 5 p.m., with subsequent sessions scheduled for Kenosha and Ashland on July 19 and Aug. 1.

Focusing on the welfare of the state's residents, the campaign aims to strengthen Social Security for current and future generations. Free and open to public, the listening sessions aim to provide an opportunity for residents to gain insights on Social Security and its workings.

Martha Cranley, AARP Wisconsin State Director, stated in the release, "We will also be looking to attendees to provide their insight as we lay the groundwork for our efforts to ensure that our elected officials here in Wisconsin fight for a robust and healthy Social Security program that is sustainable for many years to come."

According to AARP, in Wisconsin, 21% of residents, including 950,000 retired workers, receive Social Security benefits, contributing over $22.2 billion annually to the state economy. These benefits are pivotal in lifting over 264,000 Wisconsin seniors from poverty.
