Private school teacher charged, accused of relationship with 14-year-old student

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An eighth-grade teacher at LUMIN Pilgrim Lutheran School is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student. According to a criminal complaint, the relationship between 34-year-old Tyesha Bolden and her student began in May 2023.

The complaint states on July 25, the mother of the victim reported to Brown Deer police that her son had taken a relative's car, and she said that her son may be staying with his eighth-grade teacher. The mother also suspected the 14-year-old boy was having a sexual relationship with that teacher.

The criminal complaint says more than 2,200 messages were found on the child's phone to and from Bolden, and it included nude photos and videos of Bolden.

Bolden went through intake court Saturday morning. In a statement from LUMIN Schools, they said Lumin Shaun Luehring, president and CEO of LUMIN Schools, said Bolden was fired within 24 hours of the investigation by police.

It reads in part:  "LUMIN takes the physical, emotional and spiritual safety of our students incredibly seriously. To
that end, we conduct background checks on all candidates prior to employment."

The investigation also found that Bolden purchased a Glock 19 Pistol that was found on the 8th grader during a traffic stop in July.

Lumin Schools sent out a letter to families about the incident with the now former teacher. It says in part, "If your student comes to you with questions, please reinforce that if an adult makes them feel uncomfortable for any reason, they should tell a trusted adult right away. These conversations can be difficult to navigate, so if you would like support discussing this, or any other complex issues with your student(s), I can connect you with a number of resources including pastors, social workers, and counselors at Lutheran Counseling and Family Services."

The school also tells CBS 58 that counseling will be offered for students at LUMIN Pilgrim Lutheran next week.

Bolden is charged with second degree sexual assault of a child and providing a dangerous weapon to a minor. She will be in court again on Tuesday, Aug. 29 for her preliminary hearing.
