Drunk semi driver takes out sign, crashed into wall on I-41 in Racine

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A drunk semi-truck driver took out a road sign along Southbound I-41 around 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug 16. 

The operator was Edgar Ramos Perez, 27, from Greenfield. 

According to officials, deputies responded tot he interstate and found that the semi had crashed into the wall just north of CTH KR. The semi-tractor and trailer were found perpendicular to the interstate with the tractor lodged on the wall of the interstate.

A news release said the entire load of limestone was spilled in the ditch along the exit ramp. There was debris from the accident across all lanes of the interstate which caused a full closure of southbound I-41 for almost four hours.

Deputies found Perez alert and said he was able to get himself down from the tractor onto the interstate. He was treated on scene and later taken to a local hospital. 

Perez was arrested for OWI first offense. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. 

No other vehicles or individuals were involved.

All traffic is open.
