WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Art on the Plaza has been a way to activate the space in front of West Allis' City Hall building. It's also brought out the vibrant art scene in the city.

"There are a lot of artists in West Allis and West Allis has all of these murals and all of this art is growing," said Erico Ortiz.

Ortiz is the owner of Inspiration Studios in West Allis. He turned the old funeral home into an art studio and theater for all. As a painter and performer, he wanted a space to show off his artwork. The artists he's met at Inspiration Studios led him to start Art on the Plaza.

"People who have never had experience having art in a gallery, and have trouble getting their art shown, come here because I will let you in. I will give you a space, give you time to show your art here," he said.

This year, thanks to a grant given to West Allis Arts Collective, Art on the Plaza is expanding with an Art Showcase on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Art on the Plaza + Arts Showcase will have interactive art, live music, shopping and food trucks.

Art on the Plaza starts at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5. Art Showcase starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6.
