MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One school is promoting books to facilitate discussions around diverse family structures in the lead-up to Mother's Day. Dr. Lauren Starnes, Chief Academic Officer at The Goddard School joined us on Thursday, May 11 to discuss the books.
They include "Molly's Family," by Nancy Garden, which helps children understand families with two moms, Leslea Newman's "Mommy, Mama, and Me," a rhyming tale of daily routines, "The Family Book," by Todd Parr, focuses on familial love across diverse structures.
Patricia Polacco's "In Our Mothers House," suitable for older children, explores acceptance, and "Home at Last," by Vera B. Williams, navigates same-sex parent adoption.
Parents can access these books and additional resources in the Goddard School's Life Lesson Library to promote inclusivity and social awareness.
