MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friday, June 21, kicked off the 2nd annual 3-day celebration of QWERTYFEST MKE. It celebrates the invention of the typewriter.
If you're confused with the name, it's the letters going across the typewriter, Q-W-E-R-T-Y.
151 years ago, the first typewriter was invented, right here in Milwaukee!
That same keyboard is on all of our phones and computers today.
A local journalist says Milwaukeeans know Wisconsin staples like beer and brats, but many don't know about other inventions, such as the typewriter.
"That's all super cool, but the thing is there's really incredible inventions that took place here and continue to take place here that we just want to give more of a voice to," said Molly Snyder, journalist with OnMilwaukee.
Tonight, there was a typewriter ball, a clack-a-thon, and live music played by the Boston Typewriter Orchestra.
