Couple shot sitting in vehicle; motive unknown
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Charges have been filed against a Milwaukee man accused of causing a crash that left a mother and her infant daughter dead.
Reggie Gaston, 22, faces two counts of second degree reckless homicide.
According to the criminal complaint, Gaston’s SUV was going 78 mph when he ran a red light at Capitol and 35th Street around 1:15 a.m. on Monday.
His SUV slammed into another car as it entered the intersection, later hitting a bus.
A 27-year-old mom and her 11-month-old daughter were both pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old relative was also seriously injured. A fundraiser has been set up to help the family.
Investigators say video from the bus shows Gaston hobbling away after the crash. According to the complaint, Gaston was not at the scene when officers arrived, however they did find a lone left shoe in the car. During the investigation, police say they learned Gaston was taken to an area hospital for an ankle injury and were able to match the shoe he was wearing to the shoe found in the car.
The complaint says police found a baggie of crack cocaine in Gaston’s vehicle.
