MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Blood Cancer United's Light the Night walk takes place Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Summerfest grounds, with Steven Bloom of the organization joining us Monday, Sept. 14 to tell us more about the walk.
It is scheduled to run from 5:30 to 9 p.m., with an opening ceremony and walk beginning at 7 p.m. Parking is free. There is no fundraising minimum required to participate, though those who raise $100 receive a shirt.
CBS 58 morning meteorologist Justin Thompson-Gee is hosting this year's walk. This year's honored hero is Lennox, a 3-year-old diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a rare blood cancer, before his first birthday. After undergoing chemotherapy and a clinical drug trial, Lennox finished treatment in December and recently celebrated his third birthday.

Blood Cancer United, formerly known as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, says it has supported the science behind 80% of the 153 new blood cancer drug approvals since 2017.
