$200K bond set for Milwaukee man accused of hitting, killing man at bus stop while fleeing police
Milwaukee County Court MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The man charged in connection to a deadly hit-and-run over the summer was in Milwaukee County Court Wednesday for his initial appearance.
Thirty-two-year-old Charles Chipley is accused of hitting and killing a man who was waiting for the bus while Chipley was fleeing police.
According to the criminal complaint, police tried to stop Chipley for excessive window tint and a license plate that didn't match the car. Chipley took off, eventually crashing into a bus stop near Sherman and Fond du Lac -- that's when 55-year-old Lorenzo Martin was killed.
It's estimated Chipley was traveling at speeds over 100 mph just before the crash.
"At those speeds, if true, there's almost no way that person could survive, and that person did not, in fact, survive," said Hon. Barry Phillips.
Chipley is facing four felony charges including hit-and-run involving death and first degree reckless homicide.
In court Wednesday, Chipley's cash bond was set at $200,000.
He's due back in court for a preliminary hearing Jan. 23.
