15-year-old Milwaukee boy killed after being struck by vehicle, driver arrested

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say a 15-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle Friday, April 14.

Police have identified the victim as 15-year-old Donkeise Caldwell. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

It happened just before 8:30 a.m. near 91st and Good Hope Road. 

Police say the driver, a 25-year-old Milwaukee man, struck the child as he was crossing mid-block and ran into the street. 

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. 

The driver was arrested for operating while revoked, causing death. 

Milwaukee Public Schools identified the victim as a student of Vincent High School Friday. They released a statement, saying:

“Today, Milwaukee Public Schools is deeply saddened by the loss of one our students.
In light of this tragedy, we offer our condolences to the family members, students, staff and community members who are impacted.
Upon hearing the news, the MPS crisis team immediately rushed to Vincent High School to provide emotional support for students and staff and remained on site throughout the day.
MPS will continue to offer support services as needed as we continue to grieve.”

Authorities say criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.

An investigation remains ongoing.
