MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 1-year-old was taken to a hospital after a high-speed chase that started on Milwaukee's south side on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The chase ended around 6:00 p.m. near Dineen Park.

In a cellphone video obtained by CBS 58, you can see a violent end to the high-speed chase.

According to police, the pursuit started when officers spotted a reckless driver near Layton and National. Police say they tried to stop the driver, but the suspect took off.

Officers had chased the vehicle for six miles until the suspect ran a stop sign and hit a second vehicle, ending the chase.

"I mean that's all you heard was sirens," said Barb Leisenring, a woman who lives near the scene of the crash.

After hitting the car, the suspect's vehicle flipped over and hit a home, steps away from Leisenring's front lawn.

"Cops were out here at night, saying 'put your hands up, put your hands up,'" said Leisenring.

Officers surrounded the suspects, as several people ran from the second vehicle screaming, one woman holding a child.

According to public records, for the year 2023 there have been more than 836 car chases throughout Milwaukee County.

The people who live in the community are calling city leaders to see the damage for themselves.

"I need them to be involved more, to come, to come and see it himself, and stay here for maybe an hour so he can see what is going on," said Pastor Xaydilas, a woman who lives near the scene of the crash.

The Milwaukee Fire Department said several people on scene were checked for injuries, but only the 1-year-old was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Police said three suspects were arrested, two 23-year-old men, and a 21-year-old woman.
