MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - - Milwaukee County leaders opened a new youth center on Thursday, March 5. It is reportedly designed to keep young people closer to home while focusing on treatment, rehabilitation and community re-entry.
Local leaders hosted an open house on Thursday morning, giving visitors a first-hand look at the facility.
"We are not celebrating this building, we are celebrating the opportunity that young people will have because they are closer to home," County Executive David Crowley said.
"This is really about how we continue to organize ourselves as a community in removing juvenile justice because our young people should have access to opportunity and not be stifled by it."
The center can serve up to 32 young people, including classrooms, a computer lab and health clinics, officials said.
