MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Another Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration was held at the Marcus Performing Arts Center Monday night.
Among speeches from local leaders and performances from young musicians and dancers, young winners of a speech and essay contest were recognized.
We spoke to a few of those winners who told us they learned a lot studying Dr. King.
"I did this speech because my skin color, and I wanted equal rights," said contest winner Oumalkire Osman. "Tons of people made me understand how special I was more."
"I wrote something that I want it to be," said contest winner Leanna Mitchell. "To make the world a beautiful world."
"Anyone who wants to become a huge leader like Dr. King should take a step forward into the future and realize what the past can bring, a better future," said contest winner Celeste Ziegler.
Speeches and essays were centered around Dr. King's question, "What are you doing for others?"
