Wisconsin WWII vet awarded bronze star

NEENAH, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 93-year-old World War II veteran in Neenah has earned a bronze star for his valor.

From 1943 to 1946, Len Erickson was an Infantryman and Platoon Sergeant in France and Germany. He was already the recipient of four honors.

Now, more than 70 years after his service, he says he was surprised to earn another medal.

"I feel quite honored that this has taken place. I never expected anything like it," says Erickson.

Erickson says he didn't know he could receive the bronze star medal until the Disabled American Veterans Department of Wisconsin looked into his history.
