Woman reported missing found dead in Walworth County
WALWORTH COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police are investigating the murder of Cieara Berry, a 41-year-old Milwaukee woman.
They said her body was found an hour from the city and the person of interest killed himself.
Police said Berry was reported missing by her family on Nov. 2, and her body was found in Walworth County.
"It's just so heartbreaking to think, just even think that someone could do that to her, because of how loving she was," said Tawana Watkins, Berry's little sister.
Police said they found Berry's body on Thursday, Nov. 2 in the town of Darien, with gunshot wounds.
The following Friday an autopsy was performed in Walworth County.
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office said they sent out photos of Berry's body to other law enforcement agencies to help identify who she was.
"They have a picture of her on the ground, and she’s dead, and I could not look at that picture. I still have not seen it," said Watkins.
Police said during their search for Berry, they identified 69-year-old Jerome Thames as a person of interest.
Police said they found Thames near 91st and Silver Spring.
They said when they approached the man for questioning, he pulled out a gun and shot himself.
Now Berry's loved ones are making sure her memory lives on.
"I just believed that for her girls, I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure that her 3-year-old little daughter never forgets her," said Watkins.
Watkins said she is planning a balloon release vigil sometime in the near future.
