Woman jumps from second-story window to escape after Racine man holds her hostage, hits her with hammer

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A woman had to jump out of a window after she was held against her will in an apartment.

The suspect in the case has been identified as Stanley McCane who is now facing charges of Misdemeanor Battery, False Imprisonment, and Intimidation of a Victim.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 2300 block of 16th Street for a report of a woman who jumped out a window and injured her right hip area.

The victim told police that she was watching movies at McCane's house and that he became jealous and upset when she had to leave.

According to the criminal complaint, McCane then locked the deadbolt to the apartment that could only be unlocked with a key. For several hours, the woman allegedly asked McCane to let her leave to which he said no. The victim did not have a cell phone on her.

The victim eventually took a pair of scissors and cut the screen on the bathroom window in order to escape. As she was crawling out the window, McCane allegedly grabbed her leg and pulled her back inside the home. When the woman tried to run again, McCane allegedly struck her with a hammer.

The woman was eventually able to escape his grasp and jump out the second story window. She found a passerby who allowed her to use his phone to call 911.
