Woman found hiding in child's closet after burglarizing Racine County home
RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Union Grove woman is charged after allegedly burglarizing a house and hiding in a child's closet before jumping out a second story window to escape.
Sarah Schlecht, 23, is charged with burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were called to a home on Wind Lake Road in the Town of Norway on August 6 for a report of a burglary in progress. When they arrived on scene, they saw the male homeowner detaining a female burglar on the ground outside of the home in a wooded area.
Officers spoke with the man who said one of his children told him that a woman was hiding upstairs in the master bedroom. When the man went upstairs, he saw the woman hiding with pillow cases filled with the couple's property.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman then jumped out the second story window and the male homeowner was able to detain her until authorities arrived on scene.
When officers arrested the woman, later identified as Schlecht, they found drug paraphernalia on her. She allegedly told police that she went into the house to get the drug paraphernalia because the homeowners are users.
Officers also found Schlecht to be in possession of two gold necklaces, a gold chain, and a silver pendant. Authorities also located a large flat screen TV and a white banjo nearby.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman then asked authorities, "How is it burglary if I entered through an unlocked door?"
