Woman Crashes into Tree with Three Minors in Car; Facing OWI and Recklessly Endangering Safety Charges

RACINE - Officers responded to the 3200 block of 21st Street in the City of Racine for a single vehicle crash with possible entrapment on March 8th.

A witness at the crash scene identified the operator as Sheila Canady. Canady suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local hospital via Flight for Life.

There were several occupants in her car that were also injured. One victim suffered a serious leg injury and had to be extricated and transferred to Children's Hospital. Two other victims also suffered injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

An emergency department physician detected the odor of intoxicants coming from Canady's breath. A chemical test of her blood revealed the concentration was a .265.

The witness also stated that Canady was operating westbound on 21st street when she lost control and struck a tree.

Canady now faces numerous charges including Operating while Revoked, OWI (2nd Offense with Passenger Under 16 Yrs Old) 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Bail Jumping.

Canady is due in court March 22nd for a Preliminary Hearing.
