Woman accused of driving drunk and killing 2 Marquette University students pleads not guilty
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The driver accused of causing the crash that killed two men on Marquette University’s lacrosse team pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
The judge found enough evidence to move the case against 41-year-old Amandria Brunner to trial.
Investigators say on Sept. 5, Brunner was driving a Ford Ranger near 27th and St. Paul. While making a left turn, Brunner hit a Jeep with six people inside.
Nineteen-year-old Scott Michaud and 20-year-old Noah Snyder died at the scene.
“There were two white males in the backseat of the Jeep, were not breathing at that point in time. They were extricated from the Jeep and pronounced deceased on the scene,” said Officer William Hanney, with Milwaukee police.
Investigators say Brunner smelled of alcohol and told officers she had been drinking prior to driving. Police say Brunner gave officers multiple clues she was intoxicated during her field sobriety test.
Brunner was arrested, and her blood alcohol content was 0.133.
Officer Hanney said witnesses at the scene testified how intoxicated Brunner was.
“Brunner smelled of alcohol. Appeared to be intoxicated, said she had been drinking and was trying to shove gum in her mouth while talking to the witness,” said Hanney, at the preliminary hearing.
Brunner was previously convicted of operating while intoxicated back in 2003 in Greenfield. She’s due back in court later this month.
