Woman accused of beating mother to death with rock found incompetent to stand trial
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee woman charged with homicide after allegedly beating her mother to death with a rock has been found incompetent to stand trial.
Court records show court proceedings have been suspended, and Lauren Spors will be committed to the Department of Health and Family Services for Institutional Care in order to restore competency.
A court hearing for the finding of Spors' next doctor's report is scheduled for Feb. 27, 2026.
Spors is accused of killing her 64-year-old mother, Carrie Zettel, in October.
Spors' father, Jeffrey Spors, died in 2018. CBS 58 obtained the investigation report from Spors' death from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office. The report noted Zettel had shared Lauren "hit the decedent over the head with two glass bottles." Jeffrey was found dead three days after the bottle attack. According to a family friend, he refused to press charges against his daughter.
Within three months of Jeffrey's death, Spors had been served with a domestic violence restraining order, and she was charged with violating the order twice. Both times, the court found Spors incompetent to stand trial.
