MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Wisconsin travelers at General Mitchell International Airport bound for Mexico tell CBS 58 they aren’t really worried after the U.S. issued a travel warning for a popular vacation destination.
The warning is for the Mexican resort town of Playa del Carmen where explosive devices were found on two ferries over the last two weeks.
One of the explosive devices went off, injuring several passengers including seven U.S. citizens.
Playa del Carmen is just south of Cancun. Travelers bound for Mexico on Friday morning said they plan on only staying at the resort throughout their vacation.
“We thought about going to certain ruins and stuff but we changed our minds and just decided to stay at the resort,” Kandy Kahl said.
A safety alert was also issued for Cancun where there has been violence stemming from drug gangs.
