Wisconsin professor crowned 3-time 'Jeopardy!' champion
DE PERE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Wisconsin professor is living what he calls a 'dream come true'. Ben Chan has been crowned a three-time champion of "Jeopardy!"
Chan is an assistant professor of philosophy at St. Norbert College in De Pere Wisconsin.
On any given day, Chan can often be found in his classroom, molding the minds of the next great thinkers, but over the past few weeks he's been on CBS 58, schooling the minds of the nation.
Chan, a philosopher at heart, has won "Jeopardy!" three times: April 12, April 13 and April 14.
Chan was supposed to defend his reigning title April 17, but due to COVID-19 he was unable to appear on the show.
Chan said the winning Is still a shock.
"Surprise, and I think a bit of relief, it turns out, I'm really good at this," said Chan.
Chan said he's always had the trivia bug, but it was his mortality that made him go after the national stage.
"You know, just thinking about what I really wanted, and this was one of the things I really wanted," said Chan.
Chan said with big wins comes a lot of studying, learning from close to 3,000 flashcards.
"I've made a lot of flashcards and worked on my weaknesses and tried to, you know, strengthen my strengths," said Chan.
The professor went on to say, it's not about the money or fame for him. He said he does it for the love of the game.
"That's the main motivation for a lot of us, the game, it's so fun you want to keep playing it."
"Jeopardy!" has taped Chan's fourth appearance. That will air May 15.
