Wisconsin Man Arrested for 8th DUI after Hit-and-Run

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, at about 11:49 PM a Deputy from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gregory L. Swenson, 55-years-old, from Edgerton for his 8th Offense felony DUI.

According to a release from the Dane County Sheriff, Deputies were dispatched to a hit-and-run complaint in the 3300 block of East Thomas Street, where a vehicle reportedly struck some large boulders and other property in the area. It was reported that the vehicle was “hung up” on the boulders but was able to get free and left the scene. 

A deputy enroute to the crash located a vehicle matching the description traveling westbound on State Highway 59 in Newville. The deputy followed the vehicle as it turned off of Highway 59 and onto Hillside Road. The deputy reported that the vehicle had nearly struck a mailbox and then stopped.   

There was fresh damage to the vehicle consistent with the reported crash in the 3300 Block of Thomas St. Swenson told the deputy that he was the person involved in the traffic crash at that location.  

Swenson smelled highly of intoxicants and was asked to perform field sobriety tests. After completion of the tests, Swenson was arrested for 8th offense felony Operating While Intoxicated, Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle and Hit and Run to Property Adjacent to a Highway.

Swenson was transported the Rock County Jail where was held for court.
