In addition to people, pets are being displaced by the flooding in Texas.
The Wisconsin Humane Society says that in natural disasters, shelters in affected communities will often transfer out their existing animal population to other shelters to make room for new animals.
"Shelters are really careful not to transfer out dogs that were actually flood victims because their owners might be out there looking and we want those reunions to happen," said Angela Speed, VP of Communications for WHS.
The Wisconsin Humane Society is on standby to take in any transfers but so far, none are scheduled.
