WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 66-year-old man is dead after a driver struck him in West Milwaukee Monday, March 9.
Authorities say the man, identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office Tuesday as Calvin Young, Jr., was struck while in the intersection of 54th and National just after 7:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Young's neighbor, Kelly Brennan, says he was the kind of neighbor who would help you with groceries, have a conversation, and will be missed.
"He was just the kindest, nicest man. Saw him every day," said Brennan through tears. "He was just a really kind man and deserved a better end."
According to police, a 30-year-old-woman was taken into custody in connection to the crash. She had six children in the car with her, per West Milwaukee PD. They wouldn't give any additional details as to their age or where they are now.
Charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
The accident happened in front of the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs, but they say the victim was not an inpatient or resident veteran.
An investigation is ongoing.
